Justin Verlander, who helped the Astros defeat the Phillies 3-2 in Game 5 of the World Series on Thursday, could not be shaken by chants about his supermodel wife
One fan who was present claimed that Phillies fans were ruthless in their chants of “Where’s Kate Upton” as Verlander warmed up prior to the game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
While cheering and clapping in her seat, Upton, who was wearing an orange sweater, was seen beaming with happiness.
Verlander had not won any of his previous eight World Series appearances, including Game 1 of this series, when he was unable to hold a 5-0 Houston advantage.Additionally, he got off to a rough start by allowing Kyle Schwarber to hit a leadoff home run. After getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning, the Cy Young favorite settled down and went through five frames with a 2-1 lead before giving way to the Astros’ lauded bullpen.
After the game, Verlander stated, “I can say I got one.”
After winning Game 5, the All-Star pitcher, who is expected to win his third Cy Young Award this month, was given a special celebration by his teammates.
Verlander stated, “They put me in the cart, rolled me in the shower, and just doused me with all kinds of stuff.”Additionally, it was one of my career’s best feelings.
Fans on social media reported that Upton and Verlander’s daughter Genevieve, who turns four on Monday, was also present at Game 5.
Throughout the postseason, Upton has been a crowd favorite while supporting the Astros in custom Verlander gear. This month marks the couple’s fifth wedding anniversary.
After the Astros defeated the Yankees in Game 4 to win the ALCS and secure a spot in the World Series, the supermodel stood by Verlander’s side.During that series, they had several sweet moments together on the field.
With a 3-2 series lead, the Astros are one game away from winning the World Series.
Houston is scheduled to host Game 6 on Saturday.
