After a wild evening in Starkville, Mississippi State football defeated Auburn in overtime

The football matchup between Auburn and Mississippi State has become a dramatic one.

That includes the flare that was provided off the field this week. John Cohen, the director of athletics at MSU, left on Monday to take the same position at Auburn.Coach Bryan Harsin was fired by Auburn shortly after.

On Saturday, however, the focus shifted to the field, where MSU (6-3, 3-3) and Auburn (3-6, 1-5 SEC) met for the first time since the Bulldogs’ miraculous 28-3 comeback in Auburn last season.

Auburn staged a 21-point comeback in the rematch. It featured a missed 56-yard attempt by MSU after a recovered, possibly accidental, onside kick forced overtime and a late MSU field goal to tie the game.

With a 39-33 victory in the first overtime, Mike Leach and the Bulldogs finally secured bowl eligibility.
